Kabba scored 18 goals in 46 games for the Blades

Watford have signed striker Steve Kabba from Premiership rivals Sheffield United for £500,000.

Kabba, 25, has signed a two-and-a-half year deal and goes straight into the squad for Saturday's FA Cup fourth round tie away to West Ham.

Hornets boss Aidy Boothroyd said: "Steve fits the bill. He's quick, has an eye for goal and has got loads of development left in him."

Kabba began his career with Crystal Palace and joined the Blades in 2002.

Boothroyd has already signed Moses Ashikodi and Will Hoskins to bolster his forward line during the January transfer window.

Blades' boss Neil Warnock explained why he felt able to let Kabba leave Bramall Lane.

He said: "It was a realistic offer. He's not getting into the squad at the moment, we've brought a lot of new players in and it's been difficult for him.

"He's been itching to get away, he has a young family in London and this will move will enable him to spend more time with them "

Warnock added: "I just felt it was a realistic offer from Watford. The deal means that we are going to get up to £750,000.

"I don't see the logic of losing £400,000 by selling him to a Championship club. If Watford finish fifth from bottom and Kabba scores 25 goals then yes, it will be a mistake but we've let him go for the right reasons.

"He hasn't been able to get a consistency level. On his day he's as good as anyone in the Premiership.

"He's had three horrific injuries which is unlucky and I think it caught up on him.

"He gets frustrated easily and the last six months not playing has done his head in.

"But like everyone who has left now he has played a part in getting us to the Premiership."
